"Music gives a soul to the universe, Wings to the mind, Flight to the imagination And life to everything" Plato
Singing is very powerful. When we sing in a choir the body releases endorphins which makes us feel uplifted and energised whilst breathing helps to release tension in the body. A chance has presented itself to start a choir especially for Young Women based in central London. There is much neglected repertoire for upper tessitura singers which, sadly, is being underperformed. In this age of equality it also seemed like a perfect opportunity to embark upon a choir led by a talented female conductor to give young women a voice.
For more about our Musical Director Susan Parkes see below: Susan Parkes has a passion for conducting and is delighted to be taking the baton of this new choir. She held a scholarship at the Royal College of Music for both undergraduate/postgraduate opera studies and has performed a large number of soprano opera roles internationally, appeared in Hollywood films (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, If Only with Jennifer Love Hewitt), Radio (BBC), TV (Rai Due, E4), Solo recordings (Virgin Records, Karl Jenkins Armed Man's Mass for Peace-No1 in classical charts), Salzburg International Festival, West End and has even had many contemporary operas especially written for her voice, lectured and held workshops for CASI at Oxford University (Worcester and St Anne's Colleges) on Women Composers. She devised, wrote and sang in "Opera for Kids; Amazing Arias!" at the Royal Albert Hall. She has a full singing schedule and remains in demand for her vocal coaching.
